Turin – Twenty years of beatings, insults, and threats culminated in a trial currently underway: the victim, a 55-year-old woman, recounted in court the nightmare she endured alongside her husband.

This is a 57-year-old carabiniere from the mobile radio unit, accused of mistreatment. The complaint was formalized in January 2024, leading to the man's removal from the marital home and the prohibition of approaching his wife.

According to La Repubblica and Corriere di Torino, the woman has decided to face her husband in court, retracing a life of physical and psychological violence.

Among the many episodes cited, one in particular pushed her to report: during a Juventus-Napoli match, in the presence of a colleague of her husband, a simple joke about the possibility of Napoli winning was met with a punch to the chest. "I stood up and said something about Juve. He stood up and hit me," she declared.

It wasn’t the first time she had been subjected to violence. In 2013, the woman had already filed a complaint, which was later withdrawn. “If you leave this house, you leave lying down,” was one of the threats the policeman made to his wife. Fear and shame had forced her to remain silent for years. “I didn’t speak to anyone, I was ashamed. Then I realized that I was wrong and that it wasn’t right for me and my children.”

The couple's son also testified in court, recounting an episode emblematic of the isolation his mother suffered. "Once my father, convinced that mom had gone out with my sister, threatened to set up roadblocks in the street to prevent her from leaving," he said.

The woman described a climate of total subjugation: "He kept repeating that he was a carabiniere and that he would always prevail. I felt trapped." Now, after years of silence, her testimony in court represents an act of courage and a request for justice.
