Stories that tell our country, our city, exposing its contradictions, facts and misdeeds told, as Moscato said, in "that clot of fiery irreverent blood that comes to us from the Language, the Neapolitan language. That I wanted to keep as intact as possible, even in the inevitable contaminations ...".
Gianni Sallustro
"Our tribute," says director Gianni Sallustro, "is part of the "We love Enzo" series organized by Claudio Affinito, which aims to stage some of Moscato's key works. Gino knew Enzo Moscato very well and shared the stage with him many times, fully understanding his approach to theater. In this work, I wanted the texts to be read with a somewhat cinematic edge, with frequent fades, drawing the viewer into the words, highlighting their power and depth.
Gino Curcione
Framed in the scenes created by Tata Barbalato, recently deceased, - says Curcione - this work of ours is a desire to give spectators a piece of Enzo, of his philosophical and theatrical essence. I believe that there must be moments like these to fully understand Moscato's genius. Something heartfelt, visceral that finds a perfect home in this theater that I feel more and more like home".
Cartesiana is considered, linguistically, one of the most extreme and daring points of Enzo Moscato's dramaturgy, the hyperbolic story, written in 1986, of the odyssey-like adventures of the three Neapolitan transsexuals, Cartesiana, Miss Inciucio and Cha-Cha-Cha, in search of a certain and lasting sexual identity, which glimmers in their minds from the mystical-transformational clinic/sanctuary, located in the Iberian Azuléjos, has now become a small classic of contemporary theatre, a sort of post-modern and ramshackle 'coming-of-age story' (similar to the American and very famous 'Portnoy's Complaint' by Philip Roth) who have come to love not only, obviously, the so-called 'different' or 'gay' but also the so-called 'normal' or orthodox of the ontological-sexual rules.
“Spiritilli”, taken from “Scannasurice” and then taken up again in “Occhi gettati” by Moscato himself, is the story of the encounter between the human and the familiar with the mythical and fabulous element that has always inhabited hearts and homes in Naples: a story of ghosts that while they visit and enrich the lives of the humble and the underprivileged, at the same time they overturn them to the point of catastrophic upheaval.
“Re bomba”, taken from “Score” by Moscato and reprised in “Rasoi” directed by Martone and Servillo, tells the story of the discomfort of a people towards the nobility. “Re Bomba” tells the story of the discomfort of the plebs represented by a cook-butcher towards Ferdinand IV and Maria Carolina.
The language used by Moscato is a degraded baroque, shattered and reinvented by Moscato himself, forcefully distinguishing himself in contemporary dramaturgy.
