A 20-year-old man turned himself in today, Sunday 12 January, at the Carabinieri station in Cancello ed Arnone, in the province of Caserta.
The man is accused of having hit a pedestrian the previous evening while he was driving a Volkswagen Polo at high speed along Provincial Road 18, precisely at kilometre 115, in the municipality of Cancello ed Arnone.
The 28-year-old Felice Cannavale, originally from Casal di Principe, was walking along the road when he was struck by the vehicle. The impact was fatal, causing the immediate death of the young pedestrian. After the accident, the driver walked away without providing assistance.
Thanks to rapid investigations conducted by the military of the Arma, the identity of the driver was clarified. In the afternoon, the 20-year-old spontaneously presented himself at the barracks, where he was reported for road homicide, maintaining his freedom.
The investigations by the Carabinieri continue to further investigate the dynamics of the incident.
It is a truly tragic accident that has led to the death of a young man. I hope that the investigation will clarify what happened and that those who caused it will take responsibility for their actions.
