Castel Volturno – A 30-year-old man of Ghanaian origin was arrested by Carabinieri officers from the Mondragone Territorial Unit late yesterday evening.
The man, driving a Fiat Punto, did not stop at a checkpoint along the Domitiana state road, in the countryside of Volturno Castle. after a chase of over a kilometre, during which he also attempted to lose the soldiers on foot by hiding in a reed bed, he was stopped.
During the personal and vehicle search, the carabinieri found 11 packages of hashish, 21 bags of marijuana and 179,50 euros in cash. The car, which was found to be uninsured and registered to a 63-year-old from Castel Volturno, was seized.
The 30-year-old, who was applying for a residence permit, was arrested for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing and held pending trial. During his arrest, the man resisted and attempted to attack the officers.
