A daring theft has hit thepost office of via Bonito, in Castellammare di Stabia, in the province of Napoli, during the Epiphany weekend. The so-called “hole band” managed to pull off a robbery worth around half a million euros, stealing the contents of the safe and the ATM.
According to initial reconstructions, the thieves dug an underground tunnel, using the sewer system to directly access the internal premises of the post office. The discovery was made this morning, when the branch manager raised the alarm. The Carabinieri of the local Company intervened on site, assisted by the Survey Section of the Carabinieri Group of Torre Annunziata, who immediately began investigations.
The method used is reminiscent of an attempt to theft similar occurred only a few days ago, again in Castellammare di Stabia, in the basement of the Crédit Agricole bank. On that occasion, the timely intervention of the police had foiled the attack.
Investigations continue to identify those responsible for this sophisticated criminal operation.
