The community of Castellammare di Stabia is mourning the passing of Giovanni La Mura, former Socialist mayor and president of the Marina di Stabia Tourist Port, who passed away at the age of 87. Many gathered at the funeral chapel at the Cesarano Funeral Home on Via Napoli to pay tribute to a man who profoundly impacted the city's history.

Mayor Luigi Vicinanza expressed his condolences, underlining the importance of La Mura's figure: "It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Giovanni La Mura, patron of the Marina di Stabia Tourist Port. With him, an important piece of the political and economic history of Castellammare di Stabia is gone.

In recent months I have had the opportunity to speak with him several times: a dialogue that was always calm and fair, even in our differences of opinion. I can only recognize and respect his commitment to our territory and the passion with which he has pursued his ideas. On behalf of myself and the entire administration, I express my most sincere condolences to the La Mura family, to his collaborators and to all those who knew and appreciated him.”

The Marina di Stabia group shared their sadness through a touching message: “ – today is a sad day, a moment in which words seem too small to enclose a life dedicated with vision, passion and dedication to the leadership of Marina di Stabia. You were not only the President, but also a point of reference, an example of integrity and commitment.

Every project started, every goal achieved, every corner of this place tells of Your presence, Your tireless energy and Your love for this reality. You have been a guide and support, a listener and a word, always with the same determination and with that light in your eyes that knew how to instill confidence in all of us.

Your legacy is not only measured in concrete results, but, above all, in the values that you have transmitted to us: the passion for what you believe in, the respect for others and the courage to face all challenges. We greet you with gratitude and affection. Your example will continue to live in each of us, illuminating our path and that of Marina di Stabia.”

Also the representatives of the PSI, Michele Cecere and Gianfranco Piccirillo, remembered La Mura and his “socialist militancy”. The funeral will take place on Friday 10 January at 10 am at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Scanzano.
