On January 1st, Cecilia Sala was able to call her loved ones and reported that she had never received basic necessities, that she was sleeping on the floor and that her glasses had been taken away.
Detained since December 19, Cecilia Sala was able to describe her conditions in a first and very brief phone call to her parents and her partner Daniele Ranieri, a journalist for the Post.
The Italian journalist is detained in a small cell as large as her body, in precarious climatic and hygienic conditions and sleeps on the floor, with a single blanket insufficient to protect her from the cold of the Iranian prison of Evin.
Despite the attempts of the Italian Embassy and the Government to ensure dignified treatment during the days of captivity, what emerges from the phone call makes it clear that Cecilia Sala is treated in the same way as all the political prisoners present and who have passed through those cells.
It is worth remembering that the journalist did not commit any crime and that only after ten days the Iranian authorities communicated that the reason for the arrest was summarized in the "violation of the laws of the Islamic Republic".
