At the Naples Poggioreale prison, Penitentiary Police officers faced a new internal security challenge after a drone delivering cell phones was spotted yesterday evening.
The news was reported by Raffaele Serra, director for Campania of the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police, who underlined the security issues highlighted by this event.
The drone was spotted making a delivery to the inmates of the Avellino ward, specifically to those detained in high security. During an extraordinary search of the cell in the ward, three additional cell phones were discovered, accompanied by cables and chargers.

Serra expressed concern, emphasizing the risk posed by the use of advanced technologies to bypass controls. Tiziana Guacci, regional secretary of Sappe, stressed the importance of equipping penitentiaries with more sophisticated tools to prevent similar violations.
Faced with this situation, the Sappe has requested a timely intervention by the Regional Office of the Penitentiary Administration of Naples and the authorities of the Ministry of Justice. Donato Capece, general secretary of the Sappe, reiterated that this episode strengthens the investigative hypotheses on a now known phenomenon of illicit trafficking via drones, aggravated by the current operating conditions and freedom of movement in open custodial regimes.
