Two people have been arrested on charges of aggravated theft following a series of incidents involving Vico Equense and Sorrento: the precautionary custody order was issued by the investigating judge of the Torre Annunziata Court, at the request of the Oplontina Prosecutor's Office, at the conclusion of an investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Vico Equense Station.
The suspects are a 38-year-old from Airola, in the province of Benevento, who has been placed under house arrest, and a 45-year-old already detained in the Poggioreale prison in Naples, who has been notified of a further precautionary custody measure in prison.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, the two were responsible for at least three thefts that occurred between 16 and 17 April 2023. The first episode dates back to April 16, 2023, when the two allegedly stole a pedal-assisted bicycle in Sorrento. The next day, the 17th April, the two allegedly entered a commercial business in Vico Equense, specialized in the resale of agricultural equipment, from which they stole material worth over 10.000 €, in addition to the owner's personal effects, including some payment cards.
Not content, shortly after the first robbery, the two allegedly stole a car radio from a car parked near the business. Thanks to the investigation work of the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Torre Annunziata, it was possible to identify the perpetrators and reconstruct the entire sequence of the thefts. The judicial authority deemed the elements collected sufficient to issue precautionary measures against the two men.
The 38-year-old was placed under house arrest, while the 45-year-old, already detained in Poggioreale, was given an increased sentence. The thefts caused significant economic damage, in particular to the owner of the agricultural equipment resale business. The theft of valuable material, combined with the theft of personal effects and payment cards, was a hard blow for the business owner, who collaborated with the Carabinieri in the investigation.
