A historic victory for Nunzia Rizzo, mother of Gianluca Cimminiello, innocent victim of the camorra in 2010: after fourteen years of legal battles.
The woman has finally obtained recognition of the status of innocent victim and, consequently, the right to the economic benefits provided by law.
The turning point came thanks to a recent ruling by the Constitutional Court, which declared unconstitutional a rule that precluded access to benefits for the families of innocent victims, even in the absence of any involvement in criminal activities.
“An injustice finally repaired,” commented Giovanni Zara, Nunzia Rizzo’s lawyer. “For years, too many families have been deprived of a fundamental right, that of being recognized and supported by the State after having suffered such an atrocious loss.”
The Constitutional Court's decision now opens the way to a mass appeal by other families who found themselves in the same situation as Nunzia Rizzo.
