Rome – Tokyo Olympic high jump champion Gianmarco Tamberi shared an enigmatic message on his Instagram story.
"Maybe the time has come to make that decision..." A sentence that raises questions about the future of his career, after a season marked by physical and athletic difficulties.
Last August, Tamberi competed in Paris, where he experienced health problems due to renal colic, putting his participation in doubt until the last moment. In a post-Games commentary, the champion shared his thoughts on his return to competition.
The disappointment of Paris has not yet been digested
"Usually you start again by setting a new goal, something that motivates you enough to move beyond the difficulties you've had.

In a moment of reflection, Tamberi also expressed his desire to dedicate more time to his family. "I certainly owe something to my family, my friends, my wife. It means owing them time, wanting to have a family with my wife, living my non-sports life," he said.
The champion emphasized that this doesn't mean a reduction in his sporting commitment, but rather a change in perspective compared to recent years: "It doesn't mean I'll stop or that I won't be as serious about being an athlete, but there's a big difference between doing it seriously and how I've been doing it in recent years."
Tamberi's current situation, combined with his recent statements, opens up different interpretations about his future in athletics.
