The project “Let's save the Cilento dialect” is an initiative that aims to enhance the local dialects of Cilento and promote the work of local authors. At the heart of this proposal is the idea of a “language of the heart,” used daily to communicate authentic emotions.
Recognized for their complexity and distinct from the Neapolitan dialects, the Cilento dialects offer a great linguistic richness already highlighted by the studies of Giovambattista Pellegrini in 1977. The protection of this linguistic heritage is fundamental and is realized through a series of events that include debates on traditional uses, literary readings, guided excursions and the culinary exploration of typical local dishes. The event sees the participation of experts and artists of the territory, such as Professor Aniello Amato.
First stop in Moio della Civitella
The opening day will be held in Moio della Civitella, on January 19, 2025, at the sociocultural center "Enzo D'Orsi". During the event, the registration of the Cilentana song as intangible heritage of Campania will be formalized. Moio della Civitella, known for being the birthplace of artists such as Aniello De Vita and Enzo D'Orsi, will see the presentation of works by local poets to encourage young people's interest in the dialect. Participants will include Mayor Enrico Gnarra and Dr. Laura Cuozzo, who will offer an overview of healing traditions. A cooking demonstration will also be performed for the preparation of a typical rustic dish, followed by a visit to the museum of peasant civilization. The event will be presented by Angelo Cortazzo and Antonella Casaburi.

The initiative to save the Cilento dialect is very important, but I don't know if they will be able to involve enough people. Dialects are a wealth but the new generations seem to prefer Italian. Let's hope for the best for the event.
