After the capture at Strasbourg of the killer 75enne Anthony Delli Paoli, who escaped during a day release granted at Christmas for family reasons, the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate has opened a file against unknown persons for aiding and abetting.
The man, according to initial reports, was identified while he was among a large group of farmers who were demonstrating near the European Parliament: according to what we learn, he was stopped during an attempt to access the building. The 75-year-old, who has always professed his innocence, had presented, even against the advice of his lawyers, requests for review which had all been rejected.
The release, which had already been granted to him several times despite the negative and non-binding opinion of the Dda and the DNA, was for four days, but after leaving the prison of Carinola, in the Caserta area, where he was detained, he never returned. The searches were ongoing and yesterday the report from the French police arrived in Italy, which immediately triggered the issuing of the European arrest warrant.
He had been declassified for some years for good behavior and, therefore, was no longer detained in the High Security unit. The escaped status of Delli paoli (defended by lawyers Domenico Antonucci and Loredana De Risi) emerged when the French police carried out checks on his identity.
Now the objective of the Caserta Flying Squad and the Naples DDA office coordinated by the prosecutor Michele Del Prete is to discover if there were accomplices who helped him cross the border without being identified.

The article talks about a complex and worrying case. It is strange that a person like Delli Paoli could obtain special permits despite his past. I hope that the authorities investigate carefully any possible accomplices.
