A 35-year-old woman living in Ischia is at the center of media attention after deciding to end her marriage following an affair with a priest from the island's diocese.
The episode has caused a certain amount of turmoil within the ecclesiastical hierarchies of the Gulf of Naples, given that the priest in question holds a significant role in the local community.
The feeling, according to the information, would be reciprocated. The priest would not have shied away from transparency, openly revealing his relationship with the woman, which seems to have concrete possibilities of evolving into a lasting relationship and not remaining an isolated episode.
Following these events, the bishop of Ischia, Monsignor Carlo Villano, decided to suspend the priest from celebrating religious functions, pending further investigations and measures.
Furthermore, this is not the first case of its kind on the island: a few years ago, another former priest, Gianfranco Del Neso, confessed to the then bishop Pietro Lagnese that he had a romantic relationship that led him to leave the priesthood, after the woman involved became pregnant.
