BENEVENTO – An investigation closed and five inmates accused of having transformed daily life behind bars in the prison of Benevento in social content.

Between April 25 and 28, 2024, five men – three from Naples, one from Caserta, and one from Benevento – allegedly used a cell phone inside the Capodimonte prison to broadcast live videos on TikTok and post photos and images of their daily lives.

The charges allege improper use of communication devices, with inmates allegedly interacting live with external users, sharing content showing moments of life behind bars. The images and videos would have been published on a specific profile, attracting the attention of the authorities.

Now, the five defendants have twenty days to exercise their rights of defense: they can ask to be questioned or present defense briefs to clarify their position. After this deadline, the public prosecutor will proceed with the decisions of the case.

The episode puts the spotlight back on the issue of prison security and the illicit use of technological devices in environments subjected to severe restrictions.
