Castellammare. The city mourns the passing of Professor Catello Polito, a prominent figure in local politics and culture. Mayor Luigi Vicinanza expressed his grief with a moving message of condolence.
“Today is a day of great pain for me and for all Castellammare of Stabia – declared the mayor –. Professor Catello Polito has left us, a man who wrote extraordinary pages of our history, combining intelligence, passion and love for the territory”.
Vicinanza recalled his first meeting with Polito in the 1972s, a period marked by heated political battles. “At the time, Castellammare was a laboratory of ideas and innovation. Polito, already an established professor at the University of Naples, decided to put his talent at the service of the city. In November XNUMX, Castellammare was ahead of its time, paving the way for the first experiments with a center-left coalition. It was a historic moment, and Polito was one of its main protagonists.”
The mayor retraced the political career of Polito, elected mayor for the first time between 1992 and 1993, in a crucial period for Italian politics. “For ten years he led Castellammare with far-sighted vision and a deep sense of responsibility, transforming the city into an example of good administration and civic commitment. But what made him special went beyond his institutional role: Polito was a man of extraordinary humanity, capable of listening and making himself heard”.
After his political experience, Polito returned to university, without ever leaving the city he loved so much. “We spoke several times in recent years,” added Vicinanza, “and even after my election as mayor, last June, I found in him the generosity and depth of always. He was a man capable of instilling strength and courage.”
"Today Castellammare loses an important piece of its history and I lose an example - concluded the mayor -. But his memory will remain alive in the hearts of all of us.
