Naples, Archaeological Museum area: a scene of solidarity and love for others took shape this morning, when a homeless man felt ill in the street.

The man, visibly in distress, refused to receive medical attention for fear of leaving his faithful companion, a dog named Stella, alone.

Thanks to the report of some passers-by, a patrol of the OIPA zoophilic guards of Naples intervened on the spot, led by the provincial coordinator and the volunteer Nando Cirella.

“As soon as we arrived, we reassured the owner,” Cirella explained, “telling him that he shouldn’t worry: we would protect both him and his dog. We immediately called 118 and, in the meantime, contacted the manager of the municipal dog shelter ‘La Collina di Argo’, who agreed to take in Stella until her owner was completely recovered.”

Within minutes, two ambulances – a veterinarian from ASL Napoli 1 and a doctor – arrived on the scene. The dog was safely removed, while her owner was taken to the hospital for treatment. “Our presence reassured him,” Cirella added, “and knowing that we were able to ensure the safety of both fills us with pride.”

The gesture was applauded by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who declared: “These volunteers are an example of concrete solidarity and selfless love for others. They managed a complex situation with great competence. We also thank 118 and the ASL veterinary service for their timely intervention. Episodes like this show the best side of our city, of which we are proud”.

An example of humanity and dedication that illuminates Naples, recalling the value of solidarity towards the most fragile, be they men or animals.
