The wave of bad weather that hit the Irpinia-Sannita district is causing serious disruption for thousands of families and the 62 municipalities served by the Alto Calore water company.
The water supply disruption is leaving homes not only without water supplies, but also without heating, with boilers blocked by the lack of water.
The situation is particularly critical in 41 municipalities in the province of Avellino and 21 in the Benevento area, where, due to electrical faults, problems have been recorded since yesterday morning in the pumping systems of the Volturara well field and in the main infrastructure of Cassano Irpino.
The latter represents the hub of the district's water supply network and its malfunction has compromised the entire water distribution.
The first problems emerged late yesterday morning and then spread like wildfire, affecting municipalities differently depending on their altitude and location relative to the reservoirs. Although Terna intervened in the early afternoon to repair the faults, restoring water flow took several hours, slowed by operations necessary to avoid excessive pressure that could have damaged the main pipes.
The result is a double inconvenience for thousands of families who, in addition to dealing with dry taps , are forced to endure freezing temperatures without the ability to turn on their radiators. This emergency situation risks prolonging, making it even more difficult to weather the cold snap.
