The Benevento prosecutor's office has submitted a request for archiving of the investigation into the death of Gerardina Corsano, which occurred on October 31, 2023 in Ariano Irpino.
The incident had led to an investigation into the two owners of the pizzeria “l'Oasi”, where Gerardina had dined with her husband three nights earlier, and into the doctor at the local emergency room.
The initial accusation hypothesized botulinum food poisoning, a hypothesis later excluded by subsequent analyses. The owners of the pizzeria, identified by the initials LT and PS, and the doctor GL, who had visited the couple in the emergency room, were placed under investigation.
However, the public prosecutor Capitanio signed the request for archiving for all the suspects, not finding sufficient elements to proceed with an accusation of negligence or fault in relation to the death.
Gerardina and her husband had gone to the emergency room three days before her death due to illnesses presumably related to the ingestion of food at the aforementioned restaurant. The situation had aroused great media and social attention, given the hypothesis of possible food poisoning.
Authorities will continue to work to understand the exact causes of the tragic event, while maintaining a high level of attention on public health and food safety.

The situation has been very complex and difficult for everyone to understand. The owners of the pizzeria should not be blamed without concrete evidence. I look forward to hearing more about the development of this story and the truth.
