Francesco Di Geronimo, mayor of Castelnuovo di Conza, a small town in the province of Salerno, died this morning: he was 79 years old.
He had undergone surgery following a sudden illness that struck him two weeks ago and died this morning in the hospital in Battipaglia, where he was hospitalized.
“Today we are leaving the mayor and friend of a territory that he always defended, loved and protected, taking care to respond to every single need of our community of Castelnuovo di Conza and the Sele Valley”, declared the deputy mayor Onorato Francione, speaking of “a loss that leaves an unfillable void and a lot of pain”.

It is sad to hear of the death of Francesco Di Geronimo. A mayor who always worked for his community, even if not everyone agreed with him. I hope the municipality can find a good replacement to continue his work.
