Mario Schiavone, known as "Maittone," who was considered a prominent figure within the Casalesi clan, died in the last few hours in the Piedmont prison where he was being held.
Schiavone was the brother-in-law of Francesco Schiavone, known as “Sandokan”, a historic boss of the Camorra casalese.
Mario Schiavone, was also linked to him through his marriage to the sister of the clan leader's wife. In the 1990s, his name had emerged in numerous legal proceedings relating to the clan's "treasure" and the assets accumulated by the clan, such as the seizure of the Ferrandelle lands.
The news of his death was made public by journalist Marilena Natale, who commented on the event in harsh tones through a post on social media.
“He will be released from prison and will return to Casal di Principe, but in a coffin,” Natale wrote. “Mario Schiavone, alias Maittone, died in prison because he committed serious crimes. I cannot feel compassion for these people: no one has pity for my children, who continue to die. For me, there is no respect for death for those who have destroyed so many lives.”
Words that reflect the anger of those who, like Natale, have been denouncing the clan's criminal activities and the damage caused to the community for years. Schiavone's death occurs at a delicate time for the Camorra family, also marked by the controversial collaboration with justice started by Francesco Schiavone.
