The Municipality of Naples, in collaboration with the Metropolitan City, promotes the Napoli Fringe Fest I edition as the first action of the celebrations dedicated to the 2500 years.
And it has called upon young artists and professionals to enrich the official programming with a widespread space dedicated to performative creativity in all its forms.
The goal is to create a calendar of events that celebrates the city's millennia-old history and strengthens its identity as the cultural capital of the Mediterranean. To gather the most compelling and interesting proposals, the first public call for proposals dedicated to this historic anniversary has been published, with the aim of involving cultural professionals, residents, and tourists of Naples.
Original projects may be submitted by February 28, 2025. The selected proposals will create a free, inclusive, and innovative program celebrating Naples as a crossroads of cultures, languages, and talents. Individual artists, collectives, and companies may participate in the projects with original or reinterpreted/integrated/adapted performances to celebrate the 2500th anniversary of the founding of Neapolis.
Artists are also welcome to create shows or performances, including traveling ones, suitable for outdoor spaces, to promote street art. Proposals must fall into at least one of the following categories: international and national drama, and special projects; theater; music; street performance; dance and body language; literature; shows for children; multimedia and visual art (first works and unpublished projects).
Furthermore, they must be classified as one of the following: Suite (shows or performances, suitable for indoor spaces); Village Off (shows or performances, including traveling, suitable for outdoor spaces); Extra Fringe (special projects). Project proposals falling under the Suite and Village Off categories cannot exceed a maximum cost of €10, including VAT.
This amount may be recalculated when the appropriate location is identified, as advised by the artistic direction.

The events, which will take place between summer and December 2025, will engage the local community through theater, dance, music, circus performances, literature, visual arts, and much more. The festival will transform Naples into a veritable open-air stage, animating streets, parks, theaters, and unconventional spaces.
The Naples Fringe Fest will be an innovative opportunity for our region, following in the footsteps of other highly successful and well-regarded international experiences. The goal is to fully engage independent cultural operators, who will thus have, throughout the year of the city's birthday celebrations, a unique showcase for their artistic expression.
"The watchword for the celebrations for Naples' 2500th anniversary must be inclusion, and the Fringe Fest is a step in this direction," said Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi. "Cultural tourism is one of the pillars of Naples's strategy for attracting tourists, and a festival that engages young people, allowing them to make debuts and participate in artistic workshops and workshops, will certainly be a powerful draw for many creative talents from around the world.
Focusing on new languages and innovation is an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate the 2500th anniversary of a city with a strong artistic tradition like Naples, but also to project it into the future by connecting it with other international youth events and festivals," said Tourism Councilor Teresa Armato.
"We have chosen as our first initiative this year the freedom of the Fringe formula: original ideas, public or unconventional venues, young creatives or established professionals who will embrace the idea of a Neapolitan residence for a creation dedicated to the 2500th anniversary.
We will support the debut productions by making the selected locations suitable performance spaces for all audiences: a democratic approach to art that gives everyone equal opportunities. The artists will be the best ambassadors for this inclusive spirit," added Laura Valente, artistic director of Napoli 2500.
