Naples – The Guardia di Finanza (Italian Finance Police) cracked down on illegal parking attendants and irregular garages, resulting in 39 people being reported.

The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples has in fact intensified, starting from December of last year, the controls to contrast the phenomenon of the illegal occupation of public land by unauthorized garages and parking attendants.

The initiative, coordinated with the directives of the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, is part of a broader plan to protect legality and urban decorum.

In the last two months, the financiers of the I Group and the Pronto Impiego Group of Naples have fined and reported to the Municipality as many as 11 irregular garages. The structures, located in the areas of Borgo Orefici, Porto, Chiaia and Fuorigrotta, used stratagems to increase the capacity of the parking lots, despite the limited spaces, which on average accommodated only 5 or 6 vehicles.

In the garages of the tourist areas the rates are 15 euros per hour

To maximize profits, the managers used hourly rates that varied from 6/7 euros in the less frequented areas to 15 euros in the more touristy neighborhoods.

However, the main trick was to park customers' cars in public spaces, often double-parked or on sidewalks, even occupying reserved paid spaces. To secure the areas, those responsible marked off the road surface with unauthorized cones and signs, causing traffic disruption.

In addition to the irregularities in the use of public land, many garages have been fined for the presence of unauthorized luminous signs, installed on road signs with self-powered batteries, in violation of Article 23 of the Highway Code.

Undeclared workers and numerous tax irregularities

During the checks, the Guardia di Finanza found irregularities in the registration and transmission of tax receipts in almost all the facilities visited. Furthermore, in some garages, “illegal” workers were discovered.

The operation also led to the identification of 14 unauthorized parking, two of whom were caught red-handed for other illicit activities: one was selling contraband tobacco, while the other was in possession of narcotics. Overall, in 2023, the financial police identified 121 people involved in this type of illegal activity, with 50 of them reported to the Judicial Authority.
