When we talk about poverty, we almost exclusively think of the lack of material resources. In the collective imagination, in fact, the absence of food or clothing represents the only need felt by those who live in conditions of deprivation; however, there are equally important needs, such as the possibility of living with a family, of having significant social relationships and the possibility of accessing medical care.
To also provide answers to these needs, Church of Naples has given life to Casa Bartimeo, a true “charity hub” coordinated by the Diocesan Caritas through the ETS branch of the Church of Naples, which is located in the complex of the Basilica of San Pietro ad Aram along Corso Umberto I in Naples, in what is configured as the first Work Sign of the Jubilee of Hope realized thanks to the support of the Fondazione Con il Sud, the Fondazione Grimaldi, the Fondazione San Gennaro, the Neapolitan Province of the Friars Minor and the Archconfraternity of the Pellegrini.
It will be a home where different fragilities will find support and welcome.
It will be the new headquarters of the Diocesan Listening Center and will have a residential community for young adults in fragile conditions who need to regain their autonomy, an emergency reception center for women and small families, a psychological support center, a legal counseling service for migrants, and an important solidarity outpatient clinic.
The work will be inaugurated on Monday 20 January at 17,30:292 pm in Corso Umberto I XNUMX, by the Cardinal of Naples Don Mimmo Battaglia, in the presence of Erri De Luca who will hold a lecture entitled “Jubilee. Freedom, restitution and redemption” and the maestro Lello Esposito who, through the Quadreria Sociale project, will give life and color to the rooms of the Polo della Carità.
Casa Bartimeo will be open to visitors from 16 to 17,30:XNUMX p.m., not after the inauguration. The reception facilities, the outpatient clinic, the day service areas and the corridors will be open to visitors, where the works of the Quadreria Sociale by Lello Esposito, created together with the inmates of the Giuseppe Salvia Penitentiary Institute in Poggioreale, will also be exhibited.
