The letter, written by her own hand and addressed to Mrs. Erica, was shared on social media in its entirety. Perla's gesture attracted the attention of Internet users, who appreciated the genuineness and innocence of her words.
The emotion expressed in the letter underlines the strong bond of this young girl with Naples and the respect for the culture and traditions of the city. The little girl, imagining she is talking to a friend, tells about the experience she had in the city and all the beauties she visited:
“I would like to tell you how I spent my Christmas Eve. I went to Naples, my mother's city, a wonderful city. I saw so many beautiful places, like Mergellina, where there is a very long promenade, a warm sun and sellers of ears of corn. I ate it boiled, it was really delicious!
I went to Posillipo, where I admired a breathtaking view: you could see the whole city and Vesuvius, which as you know is one of the most important volcanoes in the world. The sky was a very intense blue, almost blinding! From Posillipo to reach Mergellina you go through the famous “Thirteen descents of Sant'Antonio” and I counted them all!”. Then the letter continues:
“One letter is not enough to tell you everything, but I suggest you visit Naples, so you can tell me what you think. I am sure that it will remain in your heart, as it did to me! I will return soon”.
The Tourism Councilor Teresa Armato, after reading the testimony, which went viral on social media, that Perla dedicated to our city after having been there on vacation, responded by inviting her back to Naples.
Councilor Teresa Armato: “I was moved”
“I read Perla's letter and was moved like who knows how many other Neapolitans these days, feeling proud of the true and genuine appreciation of a little girl who lives in the north, but who rediscovers her roots by walking along the seafront and enjoying our sun and our warmth.
Yes, it can only fill us with joy, especially those of us who are putting our hearts into making Naples more and more welcoming and we tell our little ambassador Perla to return to Naples and come to the City Hall to visit us. Both Mayor Manfredi and I will be happy to meet her and to officially invest her with the role of ambassador that she has conquered on her own with her passionate little letter”.
