The Carabinieri of the operational unit of the Vomero company, together with their colleagues from the local station, reported a 54-year-old Neapolitan, already known to the police, for aggravated theft.
The episode occurred yesterday evening in the church of San Gennaro al Vomero, located in via Bernini. During the celebration of the mass, a man entered the sacristy, taking advantage of the moment of recollection of the faithful, and stole the parish priest's smartphone and 60 euros in offerings collected by believers.
The timely investigations of the Carabinieri allowed the identification of the person responsible. During a search, the stolen phone was recovered, which was immediately returned to the parish priest. The question of the security measures to be adopted to prevent similar incidents in the future remains open regarding the theft in the sacristy.
