Naples – Another vile attack against those who work to ensure the safety of citizens: it happened yesterday evening when a female municipal police officer was attacked and injured while intervening to put out a “Saint Anthony’s fire” in via Campegna.
According to Commander Ciro Esposito, the deputy head of the Fuorigrotta operational unit, after having secured her colleagues, was hit in the head by a blunt object thrown by a group of youths.
Fortunately, the woman's condition is not worrying, but the episode casts a shadow on the difficult situation that law enforcement faces on a daily basis. “Those who do our job know that they are exposed to risks, but episodes like this are unacceptable”, said Esposito.
The traffic warden was treated and given a 15-day prognosis. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for this vile act.
This is not the first act of intolerance towards the police during the celebrations for Sant'Antonio Abate. Friday 17 in the Sanità district there was a stone-throwing attack on the carabinieri cars.
