Twelve alleged car accidents, believed to be completely false and orchestrated to obtain illicit compensation from insurance companies, are at the center of an investigation conducted by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office: 52 people now risk trial.

Among the suspects are three lawyers and three doctors residing in the provinces of Salerno and Naples. The jurisdiction of the investigation has been transferred to Milan because the injured party insurance company, Axa Assicurazioni, is based in the Lombardy capital.
The false accidents were reported in the Agro nocerino-sarnese, involving the municipalities of Pagani, Nocera Inferiore, Sarno, Castel San Giorgio, Baronissi and Mercato San Severino. According to investigators, none of the accidents reported between 2018 and 2021 actually occurred.
The suspicious clues
The compensation requests were mostly made by a lawyer from Pagani, now under investigation with other people for fraudulent damage in competition. The investigators, in collaboration with Axa Assicurazioni, have detected several anomalies:
The collisions often occurred on the same road.
The number of people involved was always high, between 4 and 6 people per accident.
The injuries reported by the injured did not match the hospital medical reports.
The medical certificates for the alleged personal injuries almost always came from the same radiology office in Salerno.
The protagonists of the investigation
Among the suspects, in addition to the lawyer from Paganese, there are two colleagues from Nocera Inferiore and Cava de' Tirreni, and three doctors with offices in Salerno, Battipaglia and Naples.
One of the most suspicious episodes dates back to May 9, 2019 in Mercato San Severino: a lawyer reported an accident between a Ford Fiesta and a bicycle, driven by a friend of the owner.
The victim was allegedly thrown against a wall, but the investigation revealed inconsistencies. The driver allegedly refused to show the damaged car, while the cyclist presented, two months later, a diagnosis of "unpublished fractures" not detected in the initial emergency room report.
In other cases, the accidents involved witnesses believed to be false or were found with vague details, such as the failure to identify the driver of the crashed car.
The Prosecutor's Office has opted for a direct summons to trial for all the suspects. The single judge will now evaluate the documents and decide whether to proceed with the trial.
