Today, January 10, Italy is witnessing the first Black Friday of the year, marked by a strike involving transport and school workers. Disruptions and disruptions are expected across the country, with planes, trains, buses and subways from Milan to Rome and from Naples to Palermo being stopped.
Transport aereo
The airline industry is suffering a 24-hour shutdown with protests by Airport Handling workers at Milan Linate and Malpensa, as well as Sea staff at Milan airports and Aviation Services workers at Venice Marco Polo airport. Pisa airport is also experiencing disruption due to the strike called by Filcams Cgil. In general, the entire airline industry is expected to experience a significant backlash, with delays that will also affect flights not directly affected by the cancellations. During these strikes, the guaranteed time slots will be respected: from 7 am to 10 am and from 18 pm to 21 pm, during which flights must still operate.
RimborsoAlVolo, a company specialized in the sector, reminds that the rights of passengers remain protected. According to EC Regulation 261/2004, if a flight is cancelled without a notice of at least 14 days or is subject to a prolonged delay, the airline is required to guarantee assistance to passengers, which includes meals, drinks and hotel accommodations. In the event of expenses incurred by the passenger, the airline must reimburse them, provided they are reasonable and documented.
If a flight is cancelled, the airline must offer the choice between a refund of the ticket or boarding an alternative flight to the final destination as soon as possible.
Rail transport
The 24-hour strike also affects the railway sector, with RFI workers interrupting service from 21:9 p.m. yesterday, January 21, and only resuming at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. today. “Minimum transport services” will be guaranteed. Trenitalia has announced that “trains in transit at the start of the protest – will reach their final destination if this can be reached within one hour of the start of the strike; beyond this time, trains may stop at previous stations”.
Local public transport and school
Local public transport is facing a 4-hour national strike, with times varying at the territorial level. In Rome, for example, the metro, buses and trams will be at risk from 8.30:12.30 to XNUMX:XNUMX, as communicated by Roma Servizi per la Mobilità, with the Faisa Confail union that has proclaimed the strike.
As for schools, today all teaching, educational and ATA staff, both temporary and permanent, are on strike following a strike called by the CSLE (Confederazione Sindacale Lavoratori Europei).
The union highlighted that "we have called a strike for the following reasons: A more onerous increase in salaries bringing wages to the European standard; Immediate abolition of the obligation for school collaborators to carry out diaper changes and sanitary hygiene on 'DA' students; Arrange training courses for collaborators who want to carry out the task which involves diapers and sanitary hygiene on 'DA' students and additional financial recognition;
Immediate abolition of the reduction in holiday hours for those who join the strikes, as an anti-Constitutional and anti-Democratic action; Failure to provide compensation for the 1531 shift code; Compliance with the staff replacements circular no. 354 of 05/01/2024; Compliance with the 1 to 7 educator/children frontal ratio regional law no. 7/2020 art. 35 paragraph 1”.

The strike issue is very important, but it is not clear whether the disruption will be as serious as they say. Many people depend on public and air transportation, so let's hope it will be resolved soon.
