Naples - It went as expected by the parents, family, friends and all the citizens of Naples who were asking for justice: Francesco Pio Valda was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the innocent pizza chef from Pianura, Francesco Pio Maimone.
The judges deliberated for over two hours, upholding the maximum sentence requested by the Naples DDA prosecutor, Antonella Fratello.
Francesco Pio Maimone , the aspiring pizza chef, was shot dead on the night between March 19 and 20, 2023, on the city's seafront, at the height of an argument to which he had no part.
“He was 20 years old in March 2023 when the murder occurred,” said lawyer Iavarone, who is defending the victim’s family, concluding his speech. “Valda is young, he has spoken, he has a clean criminal record, he has no final sentences.”
Valda 's lawyer had instead asked the judges of the First Assize Court, among other things, to exclude the aggravating circumstance of futile motives, the exclusion of the aggravating circumstance of Camorra involvement and an acquittal with the formula "the fact does not exist".
“I don’t want Valda to be pardoned,” Iavarone continued, “I don’t want you to be lenient, but you have the weight of this decision and you cannot ignore it. Your job is to establish whether the evidence at your disposal can justify the maximum sentence. This defense attorney believes not.”
