The SWITCHtoHEALTHY project, funded by the European Union, aims to promote the adoption of the Mediterranean Diet by strengthening the role of families and schools in the approach to food, thanks to an effective communication strategy aimed at parents and children.
Within the project, the involvement of families occurs through the creation of digital apps, educational materials and healthy snacks and in the organization of guided tours, workshops and competitions for teenagers.
SWITCHtoHEALTHY involves 18 prestigious organizations - public and private - from 8 countries on both sides of the Mediterranean: Italy, Egypt, Spain, Greece, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
In this context, 10 innovative recipes were created, validated by the University of Parma, using “Mediterranean ingredients” produced in the 8 countries participating in the project, in order to invite parents and children to make them.
Among these innovative recipes, 2 have been translated into video, by the Comprehensive Institute San Marco Bonito Cosenza of Castellammare di Stabia, which has already supported the Campania Region during the implementation of the SWITCHtoHEALTHY project, also through participation in the Competitions launched in 2023 and 2024, contributing to the success of the activities.
In fact, during 2023 - 2024 the students of the former First Grade Secondary School Bonito-Cosenza, excellently coordinated by Professor Filomena Vitale, stood out in the “Invent your own spot… For a correct diet”, a competition organized by the Campania Region, ranking first.
From this virtuous activity a Letter of Support for the project was derived, signed by the Institute, whose purposes were then realized in the creation of the aforementioned video recipes, created by the students under the competent guidance of the teachers Prof. Filomena Vitale and Ermelinda Padovano.
It should be noted that video recipes represent a best practice in promoting proper nutrition among adolescents and therefore will be published through the institutional website of the project, including the related social channels, and will be viewed by school-age children and their families in the 8 participating Mediterranean countries, offering useful advice for creating healthy dishes, in the spirit of the Mediterranean Diet.
On the day of January 23, 2025, at the Theater of the San Marco Bonito Cosenza Comprehensive Institute of Castellammare di Stabia, the video recipes will be presented in preview, in order to appreciate the work done and to give credit to the students and teachers who took care of their creation. Afterwards, they will also be made available through the YouTube and TikTok channels and on all the SwitchtoHealthy project's dissemination platforms.
Given the international scope of SwitchtoHealthy and the diffusion of the video recipes, which will also be used as teaching material in the schools of the countries participating in the project, the IC San Marco Bonito Cosenza of Castellammare di Stabia is therefore officially positioned among the most active promoters of the Mediterranean Diet also beyond national borders.
