Operation by the Carabinieri of the Cercola branch: a 48-year-old already known to the police was arrested on charges of possession of a clandestine firearm and laundering stolen cars.
The man was caught red-handed while modifying the chassis of a stolen SUV, on which a counterfeit license plate had been installed. At the sight of the military, he attempted to flee together with an accomplice, but was stopped shortly after. The second individual managed to disappear, and investigations are underway to identify him.
During the search of his home, the Carabinieri found a pistol with the serial number erased, complete with four bullets in the charger, and a sum of 2.500 euros in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal activities. In addition, falsified documents, a laptop, multi-material printers for creating counterfeit license plates and vehicle registration documents were seized.
Outside the house, in a parked van, a real laboratory for the theft and modification of vehicles was found: equipment for punching frames, grinders, jammers, holographic emblems of the Italian Republic on adhesive paper and other tools useful for recycling cars.
The 48-year-old was taken to prison and remains awaiting trial. In the meantime, investigations continue to dismantle the entire criminal network.
