The connection between the Neapolitan dialect and other languages of Southern Italy is the focus of several cultural initiatives. Among these is the "Dialect Encounters" project, which aims to celebrate and preserve Neapolitan linguistic heritage.
This program is promoted by the Scientific Committee for the protection and enhancement of the linguistic traditions of Campania, in collaboration with the Campania dei Festival Foundation.
“Rusina” in the dialect scenario
One of the main events of the project is the show “Rusina”, scheduled for Monday, January 27 at 16 pm, at the Sala Comencini of Musap in Naples. The work, interpreted and directed by the actress Rossella Pugliese, is a performance in Calabrian dialect that has already been successful at the Campania Teatro Festival in 2017. The narration focuses on the emotional relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter of the same name, exploring the theme of resilience and adaptation in the face of modern changes through the use of direct and authentic language.
A wide-ranging project
“Rusina” is the first chapter of a trilogy focused on family relationships, followed by “Ultimo strip” and “Papàveri”. Rossella Pugliese’s work has also received important recognition, such as the selection at the Milano Fringe to represent Italy at the Avignon Festival in 2023. The entire calendar of 'Incontri sul dialetto', which will continue until May 26, is available on the Fondazione Campania dei Festival website. The show offers an opportunity to reflect on the cultural richness of Italian dialects and their ability to express universal human experiences through intimate and personal stories.
