A morning of fear in the Hematology department of the San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona hospital: a patient, of foreign origin, known for psychological and social problems, attacked doctors and nurses, making it necessary for the police to intervene.
The episode occurred during a check-up. The patient, complaining about poor service in the shelter where he lives, suddenly lost control, starting to scream and threaten the staff. Attempts to restore calm were useless: the tension quickly degenerated into an escalation of violence.
The man threatened to kill the head nurse and punched a door in the ward, damaging it.

The situation was resolved only thanks to the intervention of a psychiatrist, who administered a sedative to calm the man, and the subsequent arrival of the police. The patient was immobilized, handcuffed and is now under guard in the hospital, under pharmacological sedation.
The Strategic Management of the hospital expressed its closeness to the staff involved, praising the readiness and sense of duty demonstrated. “Thanks to timely action, it was possible to avoid more serious consequences and ensure the safety of patients and operators,” we read in an official press release.
The FP CGIL too Salerno took a position on the incident, expressing solidarity with the healthcare personnel and requesting urgent interventions to prevent similar episodes in the future. “This episode confirms the urgency of concrete measures to protect those who work every day on the front lines. It is unacceptable that doctors and nurses should have to fear for their safety,” the union declared.
