Carlo Conti, artistic director of the Sanremo Festival, presented the list of duets for the Friday evening of covers and announced the lifetime achievement award for Iva Zanicchi and Antonello Venditti.
"It will be a celebration of music, so much so that some of the competing artists have decided to duet together." he explained. The covers will be judged by televoting, press room and radio, a winner will emerge but they will not influence the final ranking.
Everyone's curiosity is running high, but the most surprising performance has to be Lucio Corsi, accompanied by Topo Gigio, performing Domenico Modugno's 'Nel blu dipinto di blu'. The other big piece of the puzzle are the two lifetime achievement awards announced by surprise ("They don't know yet, I'm inviting them now," Conti gushes at the end of the news) and awarded to Iva Zanicchi, "a woman who made her debut at Sanremo 60 years ago and has won it three times," and to Antonello Venditti, "one of the great Italian singer-songwriters who continues to bring us hits."
While it wasn't possible to bring rock to the festival, as Carlo Conti regrets, rap will be there, with Emis Killa choosing Lazza and Laura Marzadori, first violinist of the orchestra of Milan's Teatro alla Scala, for the hit '100 messages'.
Then Shablo, along with Guè, Joshua, and Tormento, will create a mix of "Aspettando il sole" and "Amor de mi vida" by Sottotono with Neffa. Finally, there's much anticipation for Fedez, who will perform "Bella stronza" alongside Marco Masini, but Carlo Conti quickly slams the controversy: "References to Chiara Ferragni? I don't know about that, and I don't care."
The competing singers who will duet are Francesca Michielin and Rkomi, who will perform "La nuova stella di Broadway" (Cesare Cremonini). Then Achille Lauro, who with Elodie will pay tribute to Rome (A mano a mano by Rino Gaetano and Folle città by Loredana Bertè), and Tony Effe with Noemi, who will pay homage to the Caliph, already mentioned in the competing song by the trapper Damme 'na mano, with "Tutto il resto è noia."
Califano also stars in Willie Peyote with Federico Zampaglione and Ditonellapiaga in "Un tempo piccolo." Rome, yes, but also a lot of Naples: Pino Daniele, who would have turned 70 this year, in Rocco Hunt with Clementino in "Yes, I Know My Way," and Massimo Ranieri with Neri per Caso in "Quando."

Reading this article I realized that there are many great collaborations for the festival. But I wonder if all these duets will live up to the expectations, especially those with lesser-known artists.
