Sessa Aurunca – In an operation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Caserta has busted a network producing counterfeit and low-quality wine.
The investigations, started in February 2024 by the Mobile Unit of the Sessa Aurunca Tenancy, led to the discovery of a clandestine cellar in a dilapidated warehouse in the countryside of Sessa Aurunca. Inside, approximately 35.000 litres of wine were found bearing false and misleading geographical indications.
The winery operated completely illegally, without the necessary permits and in precarious hygienic conditions. The equipment used for production, storage and bottling was dirty and contaminated. In addition, counterfeit labels, false documents and packaging materials suitable for deceiving consumers were found.
