Capua – A 32-year-old man was rescued by firefighters after attempting to commit suicide by jumping into the Volturno River from the Triflisco bridge in the municipality of Capua.

According to initial reconstructions, the thirty-two-year-old alerted rescuers with a phone call to the emergency number 115 a few moments before jumping into the water. Thanks to the prompt localization of the man's cell phone, carried out in collaboration with the Carabinieri of the Capua station, the firefighters quickly arranged for a team from the headquarters in Caserta to intervene.

The SFA (Fluvial River Rescue) unit intervened on site with a dinghy and the SAF (Speleo Alpine Fluvial) unit with a ladder truck, while Enel personnel were also alerted to close the dam, in order to facilitate rescue operations.

The 32-year-old was found alive not far from the launch point and, after being recovered by firefighters, was entrusted to the care of 118 and transported to the hospital. The promptness and coordination between the various entities involved allowed for a rapid and safe rescue.

It was a very tragic episode and difficult to understand. I do not understand why people come to such extreme gestures. I hope that the man can receive help and support to overcome this difficult moment in his life.
