Succivo – An act that leaves dismay and bitterness in the community of succivo: between Sunday and Monday, unknown persons stole the historic cross used during the traditional Via Crucis organized by the association “Alfonso Mitrano Via Crucis”.
The cross, made over thirty years ago by the late Alfonso Mitrano – after whom the association is named – was kept in a container located in the gardens of Teverolaccio Castle.
The sacred object, brought on stage during the representation of Christ's journey to Calvary, has a mainly symbolic and emotional value for the organizers, but its disappearance has caused a deep wound in the local community.
The members of the organizing committee reported the theft on social media, expressing their regret:
“Today we are forced to share our sorrow for an ignoble gesture that has deeply affected us. The historic cross, built with love and dedication by Alfonso Mitrano, was stolen from the container where it was kept.
This object, which for us represents much more than a symbol, is an integral part of our history and our event. We do not understand the reasons for such an act, but we feel deeply disappointed and bitter.”
The cross, in addition to representing a piece of history of the religious event, is considered a spiritual and cultural heritage for the entire community, linked to the memory and work of its creator. Local authorities have been alerted and it is hoped that the precious symbol can soon be found.

I am very sorry for what happened, the cross was important to all of us. I do not understand how someone can do such a bad thing, I hope it will be found soon and that whoever stole it will be punished.
