Even in Bergamo, scenes of racism against Napoli fans are repeated, just as happened two weeks ago to a journalist in Florence, but as has always happened in Bergamo in recent years.
And so when even the Napoli coach, Antonio Conte says that it is time to put an end to these one-way discriminations only against the Azzurri supporters, how can we not agree with him. Yet none of the many Neapolitan and Campania politicians who sit in parliament raise their voices.
A video by Salvatore Di Lauro and published by the deputy of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, is going viral. It shows a Napoli fan sitting in the stands at the Bergamo stadium, who is forced by the stewards to leave his seat amidst shouts, insults and racist boos, just because he was displaying the scarf of his favorite team.
“The most vulgar racism in Italian stadiums is forcefully returning amid general indifference. It is absurd that a person cannot freely buy a ticket for a match and wear the colors of their favorite team.
This episode is even more unacceptable because those who are vehemently railing against the Azzurri supporter are not the ultras of the curve but the sector of the stands, clear proof of the ignorance and incivility that is rampant in Italian stadiums. Serious and effective measures must be taken against this trend to protect honest fans and families, who at this rate will be increasingly marginalized from attending stadiums.
I find it absurd that the doors of the facilities remain closed to those who truly love football with bans, such as the one regarding the travel of Napoli fans living in Campania, as useless as they are unjust. Measures that themselves risk being discriminatory, as Napoli coach Antonio Conte rightly stated. We need a common effort to close the stadiums to racists and criminals, without 'shooting in the crowd' just to show that something has been done". This is Borrelli's comment.
