The origin of the investigation
The investigation began in February 2024, following the arrest in flagrante of a subject caught transporting approximately 50 kg of cocaine from Spain to Italy. Subsequent investigations have allowed us to discover further episodes of purchase, transport, possession and sale of drugs in various areas of Aversa and the province of Salerno.
An international network
The investigations, which lasted about a year, were supported by wiretaps and environmental interceptions, observation services on the territory and international judicial cooperation. Thanks to the intervention of Eurojust, it was possible to execute several European investigation orders, reconstructing a complex criminal network.
Investigators have identified suppliers, transporters and buyers involved in the various stages of trafficking, from Spain to the Italian and international markets.
Drugs destined for Italy and Northern Europe
The drugs, mainly cocaine and hashish, were transported from Spain to Italy on heavy vehicles, to then be stored in safe places controlled by the suspects. From here, it was distributed to the drug dealing areas of the provinces of Naples and Salerno, but also destined for the markets of Belgium and Holland. Overall, over 300 kg of drugs were seized, with an estimated value of over 10 million euros.
A coordinated and international operation
The operation involved over 50 Guardia di Finanza soldiers, with the support of anti-drug dog units, aircraft from the ROAN of Naples and the contribution of international cooperation bodies. The role of Eurojust, Europol, the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services and the Spanish police forces was crucial, collaborating to arrest two suspects residing in Spain.
The operation represents a severe blow to international drug trafficking, thanks to the synergy between Italian and foreign authorities. The investigation continues to ascertain further responsibilities and ramifications of the criminal group.
