The investigation, which lasted over a year, revealed that the suspects simulated a constant presence in Italy to obtain residence permits and various economic benefits, which they exploited by returning to Tunisia with their families.

modus Operandi

The method used included simulating an income below the established threshold, thus allowing them to request state benefits such as the 'single allowance', the 'family allowance', and the 'maternity bonus'. To access these benefits, foreigners presented false documents attesting to their economic precariousness and a false family composition in Italy.

Key discoveries

The investigations revealed that many of the minors who benefited from the educational bonuses had never attended Italian schools and did not know the language. Thanks to interviews in schools, it emerged that some of these minors had never crossed the threshold of school.

Institutional Collaboration

The investigation, conducted on a national scale and in collaboration with entities such as municipalities and National Social Security Institutes, led to the denunciation of nine Tunisian citizens accused of fraud for approximately 300 thousand euros of public funds. Procedures have been initiated for the revocation of illegally obtained residence permits and for the recovery of the sums paid fraudulently.
