The victims, many of whom were struggling entrepreneurs or families in desperate situations, turned to loan sharks for basic needs. The debtors, unable to pay the sums requested, were allegedly threatened and subjected to severe pressure.
The operation involved searches and wiretaps that allowed us to reconstruct the flow of money and the intimidating mechanisms put in place by the suspects. A key element of the investigation was the discovery of a ledger, in which the details of loans and payments were noted, thus confirming the systematic nature of the illicit activities.
To make matters worse for the suspects, their proximity to a top member of the Casalesi clan, recently arrested for extortion aggravated by mafia methods. This connection would have strengthened the intimidating capacity of the two suspects, pushing the victims to give in to the economic demands.
Despite the serious evidence collected, the people involved remain presumed innocent until a final verdict. The order represents a precautionary measure adopted in the preliminary phase of the investigation, subject to possible appeals.
The authorities reiterate the importance of the collaboration of the victims in reporting episodes of usury and extortion to firmly combat the rooting of the mafia in the territory.
