The Kalamos Association and Scugnizzo Liberato are hosting the third event of the "Venerd'Arte" theater series at the E. De Filippo Theater in Naples. This event features the play "The Bipolar Bear," which explores bipolar disorder from the perspective of those who experience it.

A Journey into the Mind of the Protagonist

The performance comes to life on an empty stage, where an actor, wearing a bear mask, introduces the audience to his personal experience. Accompanied by surreal atmospheres and suggestive lights, the show invites spectators to enter the mind of the protagonist, a young man with bipolar disorder, offering an introspection between memories and intense emotions.

Exploring Deep Themes

The core of the story revolves around the metaphors of the cave and the bear, symbols of the need for isolation and the relational difficulties typical of the disorder. The work tries to convey a key concept: "you are not sick until you decide to be." The goal is not to launch motivational messages, but to share an experience of awareness of human individuality.

Production Details

“L'Orso Bipolare” is complemented by original music that enriches the narration with a sense of cyclicality, while keeping the story fluid and evolving. Among the artistic contributions are the voices of Valerio Lombardi and Livia Bertè, with direction by Riccardo Pisani and music by Lenny Pacelli. The show is co-produced by La chiave di Artemysia and Contestualmente Teatro, with promotion by Camilla Stellato.

The show will be performed on January 24th at 21 pm at the Teatro De Filippo dello Scugnizzo Liberato. Admission is provided through a contribution destined to the companies on stage. I read about the event and it sounds interesting, but I don't know if I'll be able to go. Bipolar disorder is a complex topic and I hope the show can explain it well and clearly for everyone.

The article is interesting but I am not sure I fully understand the central message. The metaphor of the bear and the cave seem meaningful but I found it difficult to follow the precise meaning in relation to bipolar disorder.
