At the conclusion of yesterday's meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, adopted four "contingent and urgent" ordinances, establishing, as explained in a statement from the prefecture, "specific measures in areas considered most 'at risk' of the proliferation of widespread illegality or crime," the so-called 'red zones,' in as many municipalities in the metropolitan area.

Specifically, these are: Pozzuoli, Pompei, S. Giorgio a Cremano and Castellammare di Stabia. The measure will last three months and includes a ban on staying in the areas indicated for individuals who assume "aggressive, threatening or persistently harassing attitudes - causing a concrete danger to public safety such as to hinder the free and full use of those areas - and are already the recipients of reports to the Judicial Authority for drug-related crimes, crimes against the person, predatory crimes, invasions of land or buildings, illegal possession of weapons, illegal carrying of weapons, carrying of weapons and/or objects capable of offending".

It is not excluded that, the prefecture specifies, based on "subsequent investigations within the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety", the prefect "may adopt further measures".

This is the detail of the areas identified for each individual municipality:

It is interesting to see how the authorities are trying to tackle crime in risk areas. However, I wonder whether these measures are really effective in the long run or if they are just a temporary solution.
