Acerra – The funeral of Giulia Loffredo, the nine-month-old baby who died tragically during the night between Saturday and Sunday after being attacked by the family dog while she was sleeping next to her father in her parents' bed, in an apartment in Acerra, in the province of Naples, took place this morning behind closed doors.
The ceremony, held in the Cathedral of Acerra, was intentionally reserved for family members and a few close friends, in compliance with the family's request to maintain an atmosphere of recollection and privacy in this moment of profound grief.
During the celebration, Don Gustavo Arbellino, assistant priest of the Cathedral of Acerra, addressed words of comfort to the parents of Giulia, urging them to find strength in the love that united them and gave birth to their “wonderful little girl”. “You entrusted Giulia to the Madonna,” the priest said. “Start again from your love, the one that gave you this little girl, who now rests under the Virgin’s mantle”.
Don Gustavo recalled how, just last December, the same Cathedral had welcomed Giulia's baptism, a moment of joy now replaced by mourning.

The mayor of Acerra, Tito d'Errico, was also present at the ceremony.
The ceremony was attended, in addition to the close family, by the mayor of Acerra, Tito d'Errico, who conveyed the condolences of the entire community. The parents followed the mass next to the small white coffin, without ever taking their eyes off the coffin, while the little girl's grandparents and great-grandparents stood nearby.
As the coffin exited the square in front of the church, dozens of balloons were released into the sky, arranged to form a rosary, in a moving gesture of farewell to the little girl.
To avoid the media onslaught, the hearse was taken out from the back of the Duomo, followed by the parents' car, escorted by friends who shielded the windows to protect the family from filming and photographs.
The tragedy has shaken the entire community, leaving an unfillable void. The family, in silence and pain, has chosen to live this last farewell away from the spotlight, seeking comfort in faith and in the affection of those closest to them.

It is truly sad that such a young child died in such a terrible way. Certain things cannot be explained and the pain of the parents must be immense. I hope they find the strength to move on.
The ceremony was very touching and I think the family received a lot of support from the community. It is important not to forget this tragedy and to stay united in times like this.
This event has affected all of us, it is difficult to see a situation like this. Life is unpredictable and sometimes unfair, but hope always remains for those involved.
