Volturara Irpina mourns the loss of Sally, the nearly fifteen-year-old mixed breed who became an icon of closeness and comfort for the entire community. For years, the dog participated in the funerals of citizens, crouching next to the coffins, following the funeral processions and remaining at the side of the grieving families.
Sally had no owner, but she was loved and cared for by the entire village.

Mayor Marino Sarno paid tribute to her with a message on social media: "Hi Sally, your community sends you their regards." This grief is shared by all the residents, who now ask for their beloved mascot back so they can give her a dignified burial.
Not only that: to honor her memory, the Municipality has decided to dedicate a small monument to her in a public area of the town. A tangible sign of the affection that Volturara Irpina has always had for its faithful four-legged friend.
