Afragola – He was travelling on the A1 motorway with a veritable arsenal on board when he was stopped and arrested by the Guardia di Finanza.

A 58-year-old man, of Sicilian origin and with specific precedents, was intercepted by the military of the Provincial Command of Naples while he was driving along the motorway junction near the junction for the median axis, in the municipality of Afragola.

The operation began in the evening, during an economic control service in the territory. The men of the Pronto Impiego Group of Naples noticed an off-road vehicle proceeding at a high speed, despite the heavy traffic. Suspicious of the speed, the financial police ordered the driver to stop to subject him to a check.

A search of the vehicle revealed a veritable arsenal hidden in a backpack: a sawed-off "lupara" shotgun, three Italian-made semi-automatic pistols with the serial numbers removed and magazines inserted, and 130 rounds of ammunition. The weapons, fully functional and ready for use, were immediately seized.

The 58-year-old was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapons and, by order of the Judicial Authority, transferred to the Poggioreale Prison.

It is incredible how a person can travel with such a large arsenal in a car. Road safety should be more controlled to avoid such situations, it is not normal to have weapons in a vehicle.
