Naples – Home burglaries are increasing in Campania, with a worrying escalation especially in the capital of Naples. The alarm was raised by the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, at the end of the regional conference of public safety authorities, which brought together prefects, representatives of the police force and the prosecutors of Naples and Salerno.
“Despite a general decline in crime compared to 2023 and 2024, apartment burglaries are increasing and represent a major criticality,” Di Bari said. “Targeted interventions have been implemented, but they need to be further strengthened. These incidents, together with scams targeting the elderly, are generating widespread social alarm.”
Among the most affected areas, the neighborhood Camaldolilli, where residents, gathered in the “Agnolella Camaldolilli” committee, decided to mobilize. In some cases, citizens attempted to stop the thieves, who however managed to escape.
"The situation has become unsustainable," the committee members denounce. "We are asking for a decisive intervention by the State, with an increase in the presence of law enforcement and a strengthening of controls, especially in the Roma camps of Scampia and Mugnano, where, according to repeated reports, the perpetrators of these thefts are hiding."
To raise awareness among citizens and ask for greater safety, the committee has organized a torchlight procession for today at 17 pm in Camaldolilli, at the intersection of via Agnolella and via Sant'Ignazio di Loyola.

The theft situation in Campania is worrying, especially in Naples. Citizens should be more careful and the police should intervene more often to ensure safety for everyone.
I agree that it is a serious problem, but I don't understand why more checks are not done in the affected places. We need more presence to make people feel safe in their homes.
We hope that state intervention can really change the situation, but confidence in security is already low and an effective and rapid plan is needed to stop this escalation.
