San Martino Valle Caudina – An ambulance passing through the center of the Caudina municipality attracted the attention of the optical reader video surveillance system, reporting an anomaly that puzzled the local police officers. The vehicle had been under judicial seizure since 2021.
The patrol, composed of Captain Serafino Mauriello and Officer Luigi Fierro, immediately intercepted the vehicle, ordering it to stop. The checks carried out revealed that the ambulance was operating illegally: without authorization, adequate medical equipment and with false insurance.
To make the situation even more serious, there was an elderly man on board in serious health conditions, who was being transferred to the hospital in Benevento.

After ensuring the patient's transportation with a suitable vehicle, the officers began the usual procedures. The vehicle was transferred to the Command for further checks and subsequently entrusted to a roadside assistance service affiliated with the Prefecture for confiscation.
Investigations are still ongoing to clarify the ways in which the elderly man was entrusted to the illegal vehicle, which can be traced back to a family home. In the meantime, fines totaling approximately 5.000 euros have already been issued, with measures against the driver.
The episode raises disturbing questions: did the person who requested the transport verify the regularity of theambulance and the staff? The story could have further developments, while the authorities are maintaining the utmost confidentiality on the ongoing investigation. What appears certain is the need for more stringent controls on emergency vehicles, to protect the health and safety of citizens.
