Naples - The two alleged perpetrators of the murder of Giuseppe Scuotto, lieutenant of the boss Eduardo Contini killed in May 2000, are on trial.

These are Antonio Muscerino, known as “'o biondo”, and Gennaro Cirelli who are accused before the second section of the Assize Court of Naples.

According to investigators, the crime would have been an internal execution of the Contini clan, motivated by the fear that Scuotto could collaborate with justice in the event of an arrest. Furthermore, the victim would have managed illicit trafficking without the authorization of the clan, active between the Vasto, Arenaccia and San Carlo all'Arena neighborhoods.

The case was brought to light again by the statements of several collaborators of justice, which pushed the District Anti-Mafia Directorate to launch a new investigation in 2022.

The investigation, conducted by the Organized Crime section of the Naples Flying Squad, led to the issuing of precautionary measures against Muscerino – already detained in Sulmona – and Cirelli, who was at liberty at the time, at the end of last October.

 The murder in May 2000

Giuseppe Scuotto was shot dead while riding a moped along Corso Novara. The reopening of the investigation in November 2022 allowed us to gather new evidence through wiretaps, telephone calls and telematic investigations.

By cross-referencing this data with the documentation of the time, the investigators found evidence that led to the signing of the precautionary custody order.

The investigations revealed that Muscerino and Cirelli were the material perpetrators of the crime, which took place in a context of internal tensions within the clan. Scuotto, in fact, had become the area leader on behalf of the Contini, but in the Vasto neighborhood he had gathered around himself a group of young affiliates with ambitions of expansion, in contrast with the directives of the leaders of the organization. A fracture that, according to investigators, would have been the cause of his death sentence.
